sbh selected to project manage new munitions factory for
Warehousing and industrial property specialist sbh has been appointed to project manage a new multi-million pound manufacturing and office facility in Washington, Co Durham, for defence giant BAE. Work started in December 2009 on the 350,000ft² munitions factory, which will ensure improved supplies to the UK’s front line troops and secure jobs in the North East.
The project will be completed in February 2011 and BAE is taking the facility on a long-term lease from specialist developer Highbridge Properties.
BAE staff have been deeply involved in the new design, which will provide a very high quality working environment. BAE Systems’ Simon Miller explained:” The site is closer for most of our employees and many can cycle to work on the coast-to-coast cycle track. We have included a number of features such as modern changing rooms and welfare services to provide staff with a pleasant and supportive environment.“
Piet Pulford of Highbridge Properties commented: “sbh’s knowledge and experience in this type of work gave us the confidence to select them for such an important project, continuing the successful partnership that has delivered specialist facilities to a growing number of world-class occupiers.”
